These capabilities increase soldier survivability during dispersed operations. Based on lessons learned from the heroic defense of Ukraine, the SMK has been plussed up with several lifesaving items. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe three primary lifesaving items in the SMK are the CAT tourniquets, Celox Z-Fold Gauze, and Israeli Emergency Bandage. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003eCAT Tourniquet\u003c\/strong\u003e is a true one-handed tourniquet proven to be 100% effective by the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research and has saved countless lives. Tests proved that the CAT completely occluded blood flow of an extremity in the event of a traumatic wound with significant hemorrhage. The Gen 7 CAT utilizes a durable windlass system with a patented free-moving internal band providing true circumferential pressure to the extremity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCelox Z Fold Gauze\u003c\/strong\u003e like all Celox blood clotting products have very high surface area chitosan flakes. When they come in contact with blood, Celox™ swells, gels, and sticks together to make a gel like plug.
